Listen to Benzino on iHeartRadio

"Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta" star Benzino is thanking fans and followers for their support after he was shot en route to lay his mother to rest in Duxbury, Massachusetts Saturday.

On Instagram, Benzino wrote that his fans' "kind words and thoughts" are helping him to heal.  He points out that he has "a long road of physical therapy" ahead of him, but in the end he will be "even stronger" because of the support he has.  Benzino also says that his mother was "finally laid to rest amongst all the chaos."

Police have arrested Benzino's nephew, Gai Scott, for allegedly opening fire on Benzino's SUV.  According to Boston's WCVB-TV, he has been charged with intent to murder.

Authorities say "growing family tension" between Benzino and Scott climaxed with Saturday's shooting.

Before starring on the VH1 reality series, Benzino rose to fame as the owner of the hip-hop magazine, The Source.  He has also released albums as a solo artist and with his groups Made Men and the Almighty R.S.O.
