The Weeknd To Drop Posthumous Collab With Juice WRLD This Week

The Weeknd is putting out a new joint with the late Juice WRLD.

The Canadian crooner took to Instagram Tuesday (August 4) to announce his latest offering โ€” a collaboration with the departed rapper โ€” will release Thursday night. โ€œXO + 999 Thursday Night,โ€ he wrote with an image of the beloved Juice, who passed away in December 2019 of an accidental drug overdose at the age of 21.

While we donโ€™t yet know what the name of XO and 999โ€™s team-up will be, we know the project has been a long time coming. Months prior to his untimely death, Juice teased heโ€™d joined forces with the โ€œIn Your Eyesโ€ musician on Twitter. โ€œMe and The Weeknd would make a diamond recordโ€ฆโ€ he wrote in September, fueling fan speculation that a collab would be on the horizon. At las, the time has come.

The news of the song comes months after the release of the Chicago nativeโ€™s first posthumous record, Legends Never Die.

Since it dropped in July, the effort scored one of the biggest releases of the year, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and selling upwards of 497,000 equivalent album units in its first week. Not to mention, Legends Never Die bagged the fourth-largest streaming frame for an album at 422.63 million on-demand streams in the United States, surpassing Lil Uzi Vertโ€™s 400.42 million streams with Eternal Atake.

In addition to dropping his hotly-anticipated collaboration with Juice, The Weeknd is also hosting a virtual concert on TikTok this Friday (August 7), and will perform a number of tracks from his number-one album After Hours to celebrate the platformโ€™s first in-app cross reality experience.
