Irv Gotti's family is speaking out just hours after the famed producer and record executive passed away.
On Thursday morning, February 6, the late artist's children Angie, Sonnie and Jonathan “JJ” Wilson Lorenzo issued a statement about their father's passing on his Instagram page. They included a throwback photo of Gotti, born Irving Lorenzo, during his DJ days and said he left "behind a legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him and the countless lives he touched." His kids also confirmed he was surrounded by family and friends when he transitioned.
"Our dad was an incredible man, a true visionary who transformed the hip-hop industry and changed the game for artists and fans alike," the statement said. "His passion for music and dedication to his craft inspired many, and his contributions will continue to influence future generations."
"As we navigate this difficult time, we kindly ask for privacy while we grieve the loss of our dad, son, brother, uncle, and friend," they added. "We take comfort in knowing that his spirit will live on through his music and the love he shared with all of us. Thank you for your understanding and support during this challenging time."
Reports about Lorenzo's condition began circulating on social media earlier this week. He reportedly suffered another stroke and was placed on life support. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed his passing, however, the outlet did not specify his cause of death. His family also did not confirm exactly how he died in their statement.
Artists who knew the Murder, Inc. Records co-founder including Ja Rule, Vita, Caddillac Tah, Kxng Crooked, Ye and Jamie Foxx took to social media to mourn his loss shortly after the news broke. Ja, who came up under Murder, Inc., posted a photo of him and Irv together and wrote, "Love you... 💔🕊."
