She's officially in her Blue Era! Rihanna is playing iconic little blue gal Smurfette in the upcoming Smurfs movie, set to hit theaters in July 2025, and now we have a first look at the animated movie in a just-released trailer.
Smurfs, which is also produced by Rihanna, follows the Smurfs crew on their mission to rescue Papa Smurf, who was taken by evil wizards, Razamel and Gargamel, in Paris. The film also features an all-star cast, which includes Natasha Lyonne, Nick Offerman, Amy Sedaris, Nick Kroll, Daniel Levy, Octavia Spencer, Sandra Oh, Hannah Waddingham, Xolo Maridueña, James Corden, Alex Winter, Billie Lourd, Kurt Russell and John Goodman.
The trailer also features a new song called "Higher Love" by Desi Trill featuring DJ Khaled, Cardi B, Natania and Subhi, and promises new music from Rihanna herself on the soundtrack. At the end of the trailer, a slide reads, "Pre-save The Smurfs Soundtrack featuring new music from Rihanna." See the trailer below.
Rihanna had teased that the Smurfs trailer was coming earlier in the week as she shared in a brief clip posted to her Instagram, writing along with it, "In my blue era."
Per Variety, at CinemaCon, Rihanna previously said of of her role back in 2023, "I tried to get the Papa Smurf role, but it didn’t work out."
