LIL NAS X: Nike Resolves Satan Shoes Suit

On Thursday, Satan Shoes creator,MSCHF, agreed to issue “voluntary recall and provide a buy-back program.” As a result, Nike would consider the controversy resolved, ending a trademark infringement lawsuit.

TeeRoy's 2 Cents:

  • Nike increased the value of limited edition Satan Shoes. Only 666 pair were made available.
  • Lil Nas X cut through the pop culture clutter with controversy and flair. Nobody else is in the gay cowboy rapping lane.
  • Concerned that Lil Nas X copied from Nike and also from FKA Twigs for elements of his music video for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).”

On Thursday, Satan Shoes creator,MSCHF, agreed to issue “voluntary recall and provide a buy-back program.” As a result, Nike would consider the controversy resolved, ending a trademark infringement lawsuit.

Owners of Satan Shoes and Jesus Shoes may receive a full refund. Keeping them as a collector’s item seems more likely. However, Nike warned, (quote) “If any purchasers later encounter a product issue, defect, or health concern should contact MSCHF -- not Nike.”

The Satan Shoe looked remarkably similar to the Nike Air Max 97 with an added drop of human blood. (Entertainment Weekly)
