ANDREW YANG: Clowned for Struggling to Name Jay-Z Songs

The current NYC mayoral candidate claims Hov is one of his favorite rappers.

TeeRoy's 2 Cents:

Ziwe pointed out that Yang’s favorite Hov song is basically a rock song.

He’s soon to be a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer. Everyone knows at least a Jay-Z song or two.

I feel like he was asking someone off camera to tell him what his favorite Jay Z song is.

How do you pick Jay-Z and Nas?

She even tried to help him out, mentioning how Jay-Z is a New Yorker. “Empire State of Mind” was a no-brainer.

I don't know, some days you could ask me what I had for dinner last night and I wouldn't think of it right away. I don't think it looks too bad that he wasn't able to rattle off some list of obscure tracks instantly.

The former presidential candidate, who's running for mayor of New York City, was on Ziwe [pr: ZEE-way] Fumodoh’s new Showtime series, Ziwe, when he was asked if he listened to rap music. He said back in the '90s and 2000s, he listened to “a lot of hip-hop.” He said his favorite artists include Jay-Z and Nas. But when Ziwe followed up asking for his favorite Jay-Z songs, the mayoral frontrunner's fandom started to look a little shaky.

You could see the wheels turning as he wondered aloud, “What is my favorite Jay-Z song?” A few seconds later, he started rapping the hook of the Jay-Z and Linkin Park song “Numb,” which he says is “the first one to came to mind.” He also noted how he likes Jay-Z’s collab with Kanye West, "Paris.”
